Kuldeep Yadav Wins Player of the Match
The headline belonged to Virat Kohli, but the official Player of the Match award went to Kuldeep Yadav.
Making his return to India’s ODI setup, the wrist-spinner produced a crucial 4/40 from 10 overs.
His spell broke the momentum of West Indies after the visitors had made an excellent start.
Kuldeep dismissed John Campbell for 62, ending the opening partnership, and later removed centurion Justin Greaves for 101.
He also accounted for Jewel Andrew, while India used his control and wicket-taking ability to restrict West Indies to 295 despite their strong beginning.
India vs West Indies 1st ODI 2026: West Indies Make a Flying Start
India captain Shubman Gill won the toss and decided to bowl first.
The decision initially appeared to backfire.
West Indies openers John Campbell and Justin Greaves attacked India’s bowlers confidently and built a massive 135-run opening partnership.
Campbell reached his half-century from 49 balls before Kuldeep finally gave India the breakthrough.
Campbell made 62 from 60 balls, including six fours and three sixes.
Greaves continued to dominate after his opening partner departed.
The all-rounder reached his maiden ODI century, scoring 101 from 108 balls.
His innings provided the foundation for West Indies to push towards a competitive total.
India vs West Indies 1st ODI 2026: Kuldeep Changes the Game
At one stage, West Indies looked capable of posting a much larger total.
Then Kuldeep Yadav intervened.
His ability to vary flight, pace and turn made life difficult for the West Indies middle order.
After Campbell’s dismissal, India gradually tightened their grip.
Greaves eventually fell for 101, and India’s bowlers prevented the visitors from converting their excellent start into a 320-plus total.
West Indies still finished strongly thanks to Amir Jangoo, who produced an unbeaten 58 from 43 balls.
Jangoo’s late acceleration helped West Indies reach:
West Indies – 295/7 in 50 overs
Justin Greaves: 101 (108)
John Campbell: 62 (60)
Amir Jangoo: 58* (43)
For India:
Kuldeep Yadav: 4/40
Prasidh Krishna: 2/60
Nitish Kumar Reddy: 1/45

Then came the partnership that effectively decided the match.
Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli Take Control

His innings contained 13 fours and one six.
Kohli, meanwhile, moved through the gears.

He finished with:
139 off 88 balls*
10 fours + 9 sixes
His strike rate was over 157.
